Drivers in Ohio are always at an increased risk during this time of the year when roads can be slick from being covered with ice. Such conditions could even be challenging for experienced drivers, and teenage drivers may be caught unaware if they encounter slippery patches. Sadly, car accidents caused by ice covered roads often lead to fatalities.
Two teenagers recently lost their lives in a single-vehicle crash. According to an accident report, three teenagers were in a car that was traveling on State Route 257. For reasons yet to be determined, the 16-year-old driver lost control of the vehicle and crossed over the center line before smashing into the guardrail. Ohio State Patrol officers say the car came to rest only after striking a tree and a pole and rolling over.
Further reports stated that the driver and a 15-year-old rear-seat passenger lost their lives. The 14-year-old front-seat passenger survived and was released from the hospital after treatment. Law enforcement reported that they do not suspect alcohol to have played a part in this tragedy. Residents in the Delaware area apparently reported that the spot at which the accident occurred is a known hazardous area that is often covered with ice.
