Plastic surgery patients in Ohio can be at risk for medical errors just like patients who go into surgery for non-cosmetic procedures. An 18-year-old woman who underwent breast augmentation at a clinic in Florida was left permanently brain damaged after the procedure. Now, the woman’s mother is talking publicly about what happened to her daughter in an effort to warn others.
When the 18-year-old woman was having a breast augmentation at the Coral Gables Cosmetic Center in Miami, her blood pressure and heart rate suddenly dropped. Though the physician attempted to resuscitate her, the woman slipped into a coma for two weeks. The Florida Department of Health later filed an administrative complaint against the physician, accusing him of failing to provide sufficient airway during the attempted resuscitation.
After the woman came out of her coma, she was left with severe brain damage. She can hardly speak, and she can only stand briefly. The physician that operated on the woman is still allowed to perform plastic surgery procedures after reaching a settlement with the victim’s family. Prior to the botched breast augmentation, the physician was convicted for illegally selling controlled substances online.
