As many states have attempted to make roadways safer for commercial truck and passenger vehicles, the reality is that accidents will still occur and people need to continue to be alert and aware of their surroundings when traveling on interstate or highways roads that frequent commercial trucks, like tractor-trailers or semis.
According to Ohio news reports and Ohio State Troopers, a recent truck accident involving a passenger vehicle and commercial truck killed a motorist after a SUV was struck behind by a semi truck and was forced into a river. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Mansfield post in north-central Ohio responded to the crash and detailed that the SUV landed on its roof in the Mohican River following the collision with the semi truck, which ultimately killed a 44-year-old woman from Crestline. Patrol officers expressed that the impact of the collision sent the woman’s 1999 Chevrolet Tahoe over the highways guardrail and off a bridge on U.S. Route 30.
News reports commented that the driver of the semi truck was treated at a nearby hospital for minor injuries and was released shortly after. Ohio State Highway Patrol is launching a full investigation into this fatal truck accident and did not comment as to their initial thoughts on the cause of this accident. No criminal charges have been charged against the driver of the truck at the time but this may change after the outcome of the investigation. Additionally, the family of the victim may file a wrongful death suit against the driver of the truck depending on the outcome of the findings.
