A recent truck accident on Ohio Interstate 480 killed an Ohio-based truck driver last Tuesday. The truck driver was pronounced died by the Cuyahoga County Coroner’s office after the semi-truck he was driving was forced off the road by another motorist. The truck driver was pronounced dead following the crash.

The truck accident occurred around 3:10 p.m. Tuesday when an unlicensed driver of a Chevrolet Cobalt caused a ‘Tank Integrity Services’ semi-truck which was traveling westbound to tumble off the highway, down an embankment and onto the Lee Road Exit ramp below. According to the Cleveland Police Department, the accident was caused by an unlicensed 18-year-old motorist. The media is currently withholding the identity of the teenager responsible for this truck accident until police have filed formal charges. After the crash, the teen was arrested for aggravated vehicular homicide.

Following the accident authorities and road workers closed I-480 for approximately 90 minutes until it reopened. Reports detailed that traffic was extremely slow during rush hour due to the closure. In addition, the Lee Road Exit ramp was closed. ODOT, the Garfield Heights and Cleveland Fire Departments were called to assist in the management and clean up of this wreck.

A passenger in the semi-truck suffered minor injuries and was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center by ambulance. No report was released on the status of this individual. The Cleveland Police Department’s Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the crash.
