Ohio Teen Fatally Injured in Truck Accident

A 16-year-old Port Clinton girl was fatally injured in a truck accident on Tuesday. The girl was a passenger in an SUV that struck a truck on Ohio 53 between Oak Harbor Southeast Road and Streeter Road at 5:39 p.m., according to the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

The driver of the vehicle, a 17-year-old male, was driving a 2001 Ford Escape southbound on Ohio 53 when he did not stop in time to avoid hitting a truck that was stopped in front of the vehicle on the road. The truck, driven by a 45-year-old man of Sandusky, was traveling southbound on Ohio 53 when he had stopped to turn into a private driveway when the teenโ€™s SUV struck his truck.

The driver of the SUV was treated for non-life threatening injuries at the scene by North Central EMS. The driver of the truck was not injured in the truck accident. The 16-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene of the truck accident. โ€œHer family was notified and the deceased was taken to Neidecker, LeVeck & Crosser Funeral Home.โ€

As a result of the truck accident, Ohio 53 was closed for three hours following the accident. All persons involved were wearing a seat belt and alcohol use is not suspected in this truck accident, according to Ohio State Highway Patrol. The Ottawa County Sheriffโ€™s Office and the Bay Township Fire Department assisted at the scene.
