While the vast majority of people in Ohio are aware of the potential ramifications of driving under the influence of alcohol, there are still people who choose to ignore the warnings and drive after drinking. Unfortunately, these negligent drivers often cause car accidents that have lifelong ramifications for innocent people who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. Unfortunately, police believe that alcohol may have been a factor in a recent crash that took one woman's life.
The incident happened at approximately 9:30 p.m. on an Ohio roadway. According to reports, the 49-year-old female victim was headed south. Unfortunately, a vehicle driven by a 25-year-old man allegedly crossed the centerline, causing a head-on collision.
Rescue workers had to extricate the female driver. However, she was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver suffered injuries described as "incapacitating." A female passenger in his vehicle suffered minor injuries. Although reports indicate that police suspect alcohol played a role in the accident, the crash remains under investigation.
While criminal charges against negligent drivers believed to have caused fatal car accidents can help surviving family members feel a sense of closure, they often need more than criminal justice to help them cope with the aftermath of an unexpected death in the family. If a loss was caused by another driver's negligence, family members have options. For example, many families choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit which could -- if successfully presented -- result in an award of damages to help them cope with the financial fallout of medical bills, lost wages and funeral expenses
