Hyland's halts sales of teething tablets after FDA warning

Ohio parents with teething children will have to look for alternatives to Hyland's teething tablets and gel. The Food and Drug Administration has sent out a warning that the products should not be used. The federal agency made the decision after investigating 10 deaths of children as well as 400 worrisome events. The manufacturer of the teething medication chose to cease distribution of the products in the United States.

IKEA recalls millions of dressers after 3 toddler deaths

Ohio parents may be aware of the danger that dressers can pose to curious toddlers. Youngsters often try to climb them to reach items on the top, but the dresser could fall on them. On June 27, IKEA recalled 29 million chests and dressers that are particularly prone to this type of accident.

Automakers allowed to install defective airbags in new vehicles

While news of defective airbags and auto recalls is probably familiar to Ohio residents, many people might not know that automakers are still allowed to sell and equip vehicles with potentially defective parts. Takata air bags have been linked to 100 injuries and 10 deaths, but four companies are still installing them in new vehicles.

New Subaru models recalled for steering issue

Subaru drivers have been warned to stop driving 2016 and 2017 model Legacy and Outback vehicles. The cars have been recalled due to an issue with the steering column that could place drivers and passengers at serious risk. In addition to the recall notice, Subaru has issued a stop-sale notice for the thousands of affected vehicles that are still at car dealerships in Ohio and around the country.

Numerous food products recalled over Listeria contamination

The Listeria outbreak that was identified by the Ohio Department of Agriculture during product sampling in March has resulted in two recalls. The first recall was issued on April 23 and covered 11 different frozen vegetable products that were produced by CRF Frozen Foods. On May 4, the defective products recall was expanded to include all frozen fruit and vegetable products made since May 1, 2014 at a Washington food processing facility owned by CRF Frozen Foods.

Steering problem prompts recall of Mazdas

Some Mazda owners in Ohio may soon be receiving a recall notice in the mail. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced in April that some vehicles manufactured by the Japanese company are being recalled due to a potentially dangerous steering problem. The models involved are the CX-3, CX-5 and CX-9 SUVs and the Mazda 2 hatchback sedan.

Baby cradle recall could impact thousands of families

In April 2016, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced a major recall of products intended for babies. The devices in question, swinging cradles manufactured by Fisher-Price, were reportedly vulnerable to a defect that could cause the seat to drop during usage. Although no injury reports had been received, Fisher-Price recalled numerous models in a sweeping preemptive measure that might affect consumers in Ohio and other states.

Fewer products recalls for children in 2015

Ohio parents who are concerned about the safety of products they purchase for their young children might be relieved to learn that according to the advocacy group Kids In Danger, in 2015, the lowest number of toys and similar products were recalled since the group started tracking these matters in 2001. However, few of the units that are recalled are ever returned. KID also found that of all the recalled products purchased in 2014, only 1 percent made their way back to the seller. Furthermore, only about 8 percent of total units are removed from circulation after a recall.

Lawsuit alleges Essure birth control harmed women

Women in Ohio who chose Essure as their birth control method should be concerned by reports of serious side effects. The Food and Drug Administration has received numerous complaints from women with health issues that they blame on the nonsurgical implants. A lawsuit with 32 women plaintiffs has been filed against the maker of the implants, Bayer AG, claiming that they were not adequately warned about potential health problems.
