Large Truck Accidents on Consecutive Days in Same Ohio Community

A southwestern Ohio community was visited twice on consecutive days earlier this week by large truck accidents that had serious consequences.

A crash involving a semi tractor-trailer on Interstate 75, near Middletown -- a city of about 50,000 people situated in Warren and Butler counties -- occurred at about 9 a.m. this past Tuesday, initiated by a Louisiana driver who was charged afterwards with vehicular assault and failure to control.

Unlike the second accident, Tuesday's incident seriously injured another driver, who is currently in critical condition in a Dayton hospital after her car was crushed by the semi, which ended up hanging over a wall dividing north and southbound traffic. A third victim was also taken to a local hospital, and debris struck three other cars. No one was hurt in those vehicles.

The highway was closed for miles in both directions and for most of the day following the accident.

In a follow-up accident early Wednesday near the same location, the driver of a tractor-trailer lost control of his vehicle, which was reported to be carrying close to 20 tons of truck shock absorbers. Although there were no reports of injuries in the accident, traffic was once again snarled, with northbound traffic being reduced to one lane for several hours afterwards.
