Ohio Interstate 75 Shuts Down Following Truck Accident, Fuel Spill

Ohio Interstate 75 was shut down for nearly 8 hours from Monroe to Liberty Turnpike due to a truck accident that caused a tanker truck to spill gas on the southbound lanes of the interstate, according to the Butler County Emergency Management Agency. Traffic was rerouted at Ohio 129 onto the Liberty Way exit as emergency crews cleaned up the four-vehicle truck accident. Reports detailed that the overturn tanker truck leaked an estimated 9,000 gallons of gasoline following the crash.

When officials from the Emergency Management Agency arrived at the truck accident scene, there first priority was to stop the fuel from flowing into the local sewer system. Following the truck accident, the fuel was flowing into a ditch nearby. Officials utilized dams to stop the flow of the fuel.

"Monroe Police were dispatched to the scene to close the highway from Ohio 63, and Liberty Twp. rescue squads responded to the scene where what appeared to be a blue Honda Civic, a red Ford pickup truck and another compact vehicle were involved. A person in the pickup truck was placed in an ambulance at the scene, though it is unclear if there are further injuries."

As a result of the crash, the ramp from eastbound 129 to south I-75 was closed, according to local news reports. The current condition of those involved is still unclear.
