Commercial Truck Accident Leaves One Dead in Ohio

The Ohio State Highway Patrol have reported that a Kentucky man was killed after "being a passenger in one of two commercial trucks involved in a rear-end collision early Wednesday in Mahoning County." The man, of Nicholasville, Ky., was pronounced dead at the scene of the truck accident.

Reports detail that the man was a passenger in a commercial truck that was traveling west on Interstate 76 just past the turnpike interchange around 4:50 a.m. on Tuesday "when it struck the rear of a second commercial truck loaded with U.S. mail driven by a man from Lawrenceville, Ga." Police reported that the man was transported by medical helicopter to St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown. He was admitted into the hospital in critical condition as a result of injuries sustained in the truck accident.

Due to the truck accident on Interstate 76, all westbound lanes of traffic were shut down until around noon on Wednesday. The Ohio State Highway Patrol plans to continue to investigate this fatal truck accident. News reports expressed that the police do not believe that alcohol was a factor in this crash. No formal charges have been filed yet in this case but police expect to make those decisions once the investigation concludes. It's still unclear if OSHA or other agencies will become involved in this commercial truck accident investigation.
