Car Accident Injures Nine on Ohio 4

According to Ohio news reports, nine individuals were injured and transported to hospitals following a two-vehicle accident Friday evening on Ohio Interstate 4. The Sandusky Post reported that the Ohio Highway Patrol has cited a 73-year-old Bellevue man for causing the nearly fatal car accident. The accident occurred at around 5:09 p.m. when the man was driving his 2004 Chevrolet 2500 south on Ohio 4 near Mason Road.

The collision occurred when the front of Chevy truck struck the rear of a 2005 Chevrolet Express van traveling south on Ohio 4. The van had come to a stop to turn left onto Mason Road at the time of the crash. As a result the van was forced off the southeast corners of the intersection and the truck finally came to a rest in the intersection.

Reports detailed that the van was carrying seven people being transported by Alterative Care Center of Sandusky. All passengers were taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center following the car accident for treatment of injuries sustained in the crash. One of the passengers was also taken to St. Vincent Mercy Medical Center in Toledo. Both drivers involved in the crash were taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center.

Patrol officers commented that the driver who caused the crash was cited for failing to maintain assured clear distance ahead. "The Erie County Sheriff's Office, U.S. Border Patrol, Margaretta Township Fire and EMS, Sandusky Fire, Perkins Fire and North Central EMS also responded to the scene."
