Two Men Critically Injured in Truck Accident at US 30, Ohio 511

A serious truck accident at Ohio 511 and U.S. 30 West injured two individuals on Monday. As a result of the crash, one lane of "U.S. 30 westbound was expected to open around 2 p.m. today, but Ohio 511 between U.S. 30 and 42 remains closed after a commercial tanker hauling 8,500 gallons of fuel crashed and overturned Monday night." U.S. 30 East reopened following the truck accident just before 8 a.m.

According to news reports on the crash, the truck accident occurred at around 9 p.m. when a westbound tanker truck collided with a pickup heading south on Ohio 511. As a result of the collision between the tanker and the pickup truck, the tanker truck rolled onto its side in the westbound lanes of U.S. 30, rupturing the tank and leaking the entire load of 87 Ethanol onto the road and into the median and the ditches.

The driver of the tanker truck claims that the pickup came right through a stop sign and failed to stop, causing the accident. An eye witness confirmed this story, according to a news report. The collision with the tanker truck caused the pickup to be forced off the road and both occupants were ejected from the vehicle. The driver of the pickup was a 19-year-old from Madison. Both the driver and his 19-year-old passenger where rushed to Cleveland Metro Hospital, where they were both admitted to the intensive care unit in critical condition

As a result of the massive fuel spill, "Hazardous materials teams, the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, Ohio Department of Transportation and other emergency personnel were on the scene in the morning."
