Truck Accident Kills Ohio Construction Worker

We have reported on many truck accidents that occur in the Cleveland and surrounding areas involving a number of commercial trucks but not many of the stories we report involve injuries to roadway workers, until now.

According to a Dayton Daily News article, a man driving a dump truck struck and killed a construction worker in Cincinnati. Reports detail that the construction worker was a 38-year-old man of West Union, Ohio. The man was killed when a dump truck ran him around 10:00 p.m. Friday at Hamilton Mason Road and Bypass Four in Field Township.

Authorities detail that the truck driver was a 52-year-old man from Hammersville, who was driving a truck loaded with fresh asphalt in a construction zone. The driver was attempting to back up the truck when he struck the man on the ground. Authorities detail that no formal charges have been filed at this time. Even if no formal criminal charges are filed, the family of the victim may file a wrongful death suit against the dump company and its driver. The man was pronounced dead on the scene following the accident.

Additionally, this truck accident is being investigated by local police and by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), due to the incident occurring on a worksite. According to another report on this incident by Ohiotv.com, "nearly 150 fatal workplace accidents in Ohio, Michigan, Indiana and Wisconsin have been reported to OSHA since October 2009."
