Pedestrian Struck and Killed in Truck Accident

A fatal truck accident on Thursday night claimed the life of a Kentucky man after he was struck and killed by a commercial tractor-trailer on Interstate 65 in Hardin County, Kentucky.

According to Kentucky State Police, the truck accident occurred around 10:15 p.m. on Aug. 26 when a semi driver called state police expressing that he thought he had hit a person in the southbound lanes of the highway. When authorities arrived on the scene, they found a pedestrian lying in the interstate after being hit by the semi truck. The victim was identified as a 36-year-old man of Shepherdsville, KY. The man was pronounced dead on the scene.

Police detailed that the semi truck was being driven by a 31-year-old truck driver from Montpelier, Ohio. No charges have been filed against the driver or the company which operated the rig. The truck accident is currently under investigation by several police agencies including the Kentucky State Police.

As a result of the truck accident, authorities shut down the southbound lanes of Interstate 65 and diverted traffic to other highways. The lanes were then reopened about 5 hours following the crash once authorities and response crews cleared the highway.

In another un-related truck accident on the same highway, a semi truck spilled diesel fuel all over I-65 and caused major traffic problems for drivers near Louisville. On Tuesday, police were alerted that a tanker truck was leaking fuel onto the highway. Authorities closed down both sides of the interstate as to avoid a collision or accidently igniting the fuel. The accident was cleared up within 4 hours and traffic was restored to normal rates.
