W. CRAIG BASHEIN
W.Craig Bashein, Managing Partner of Bashein & Bashein, joined the firm in 1986. Craig's practice areas include personal injury litigation, medical negligence, commercial litigation, products liability, automobile accidents, employment, civil rights, insurance law, and appellate practice.
Craig was admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio in 1986; the U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio in 1986; the U.S. Court of Appeals, Sixth Circuit in 1998; and the U.S. Supreme Court in 1999.
Craig is credited with obtaining a landmark decision for Ohio families in the Ohio Supreme Court case Rolf vs. Tri-State Motor where the court for the first time recognized the right of adult children to seek damages for injuries to their parents. He was recognized as one of Ohio's top 10 attorneys in 2001 by Ohio Lawyers Weekly, a statewide publication.
Born in Cleveland, Craig attended The Ohio State University and received his B.A. in 1983, and his J.D. in 1986. At Ohio State, he was recognized as a member of the Order of the Coif, and a recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award for Excellence in the Study of Law.
Craig is board certified in civil trial advocacy by the National Board of Trial Advocacy and has tried well over 100 jury trials in his career. He is a member of the Cleveland and Ohio State Bar Associations, the Ohio Academy of Trial Lawyers, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America and the Cleveland Academy of Trial Lawyers where he is also a member of the Board of Trustees.
An active member of the community, Craig recently retired as President of the Board of Family Transitional Housing, Inc., a not-for-profit organization that helps homeless individuals and their families. He currently serves on the boards of several non-profits including the Cleveland Baseball Federation and First Tee of Cleveland. He is an active member of St. Andrews Eastern Orthodox Church. He lives in Bentlyville, Ohio with his wife and 3 children.
RICHARD W. BASHEIN
Richard W. Bashein, Partner, joined Bashein & Bashein in 1989. His area of concentration is worker's compensation and litigation. He was admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio and U.S. District Court, Northern District of Ohio in 1989.
Born in Cleveland, Richard attended The Ohio State University and received his B.A. in 1986. He attended Cleveland-Marshall College of Law and received his J.D. in 1989.
Richard is a member of the Ohio State, Cuyahoga County and Cleveland Bar Associations, the Association of Trial Lawyers of America, the Academy of Trial Lawyers and Cleveland Worker's Compensation Attorneys. A skilled advocate for his clients, Richard has obtained benefits for well over three thousand clients over the past 14 years.
Richard lives in Russell Township. He is an active member of St. Joseph's Byzantine Catholic Church, and Geauga County Bluecoats, an organization dedicated to helping families of safety officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
TOM SHEEHAN
Thomas J. Sheehan, a Law Associate, joined the firm in 2001. Tom's area of expertise is worker's compensation and personal injury litigation. Prior to Bashein & Bashein, Tom was an Assistant Attorney General in the Ohio Attorney General's Office where he served in the worker's compensation section.
Tom is a 1993 graduate of John Carroll University with a B.A. in history. He also studied in Ireland at the University College of Galway and received his M.A. in 20th century Irish history from University College in Dublin. In 1998, he received his J.D. from Cleveland-Marshall College of Law in Cleveland, Ohio.
Tom was admitted to practice law in the State of Ohio in 1998, and was admitted to practice in U.S. District Court, Northern District in 1999.
Tom currently resides in North Olmsted. He is a member of the Ohio State Bar Association, Cuyahoga Bar Association, Cleveland-Marshall Law Alumni Association and the American Trial Lawyers Association.
JOHN HURST, Of Counsel
John Hurst joined the firm in 2007 as Of Counsel, practicing in the Class Action and Complex Litigation Group, headed by W. Craig Bashein.
He is a graduate of Miami University and Cleveland Marshall College of Law, with over twenty-five (25) years of experience in complex and high exposure litigation handling. His background includes representation of a wide range of corporate and individual clients both within and outside of the insurance industry.
John's most recent responsibilities were as Assistant General Counsel with Progressive Insurance Company, where he was Corporate Claims Litigation Manager, Manager of Staff Trial Counsel and Manager of Corporate Discovery during his tenure. John has extensive litigation management experience for large loss, bad faith, class action and high exposure cases as well as trial experience representing both plaintiffs and defendants in personal injury cases.
